what is sciatic pain?

Sciatica refers to back pain caused by a problem with the sciatic nerve.  This is a large nerve that runs from the lower back down the back of each leg.

When there is applied pressure on the sciatic nerve, it can cause pain in the lower back that spreads to the hip, buttocks and leg.

Causes of sciatica is most commonly a result of a lumbar disc directly pressing on the nerve, any cause of irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve can produce the symptoms of sciatica. This irritation of nerves as a result of a abnormal intervertebral disc is referred to as an abnormal in vertebral disc.

A side from a pinched nerve from a disc, other causes of sciatica include irritation of the nerves.

When it comes to being fit and healthy last thing you want to have is an injury or illness that restricts you from your exercise regime.

As a victim myself of Sciatic pain its not a pleasant experience at all. Its incrutiating pain that lasts for hours especially when its going down the legs via the thigh area. You don’t know if you want to sit or stand its so intense that at times its hard to breathe that the pain is really intense and you just heat up due to the energy feel all hot and sweaty, little faint and dizzy, you just want to lie down and after a while when you are so relaxed pain goes away until that little slight movement and the greatness of pain gets triggered again. Its a never ending cycle until the swelling of inflammation has gone down completely and swelling. Nerves are very sensitive and so when they are triggered off again, that’s when the pain is there. In order to get the pain down rest should be taken into account as the body is in need to heal. Sleep plays an important role in healing.

As a victim to this due from too much strain on my body from training and other impacts I have in my life being a busy mum, I too have had to learn the process of sleep and healing.

It is the only way the body will get any better and heal in the right process as we are all human after all.

To relieve the pain, ice is essential every 10 minutes on and off. Anti-inflammatory tablets just for pain relief and stretches of the legs and pelvis slowly easing into the stretch holding it for 10-12 seconds and release gently is very important and light movements to keep mobility of the spine.

I am looking forward to a speedy recovery soon.
